Larry Whiteside Jr. is the CISO at Visiting Nurse Service of New York (VNSNY), the largest private home healthcare provider in the country. In this capacity, he straddles the fine line between providing the business capabilities required and mitigating risk associated with doing business. He manages a group of security professionals and provides support to all internal and external systems used by the corporation and its entities in ensuring the confidentiality, integrity and availability of all corporate data in, to, or from VNSNY facilities. Mr. Whiteside interfaces with business leaders, engineers, developers and systems personnel to address and identify security issues in current and future projects. He leads in the security review and testing of all networks, servers and applications; troubleshooting problems and recommending solutions; the establishment of security policies and procedures.
Prior to VNSNY, Mr. Whiteside worked at Marsh & McLennan Companies, Inc. as Deputy CISO, VP of Global Information Security; at Computer Horizons Corp. as a Practice Lead / Managing Sr. Security Consultant; at netForensics as a Director of Competitive Analysis and Technical Documentation; as Director of IT Security through BAE Systems at the Naval Strategic Systems Programs in Washington, D.C.; and at TruSecure Corporation as a Manager and Senior Security Analyst.
Mr. Whiteside started his career with the United States Air Force as an Officer and separated 2002. He held positions such as Chief, Information Warfare/Network Security Divisions at the Pentagon. He was also Chief, Network Security Division - Single Agency Manager at the Pentagon. He has also been an Information Systems Flight Commander and Chief, Network Control Center at Pope Air Force Base in North Carolina. In the Air Force Mr. Whiteside has been honored as the Company Grade Officer of the Year for his units in 1997 and 2000.
Larry received his BS in Computer Science at Huston-Tillotson University in 1994 and is an active member in of various organizations, including Information System Security Association, Greater NY Hospital Association, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Boys and Girls Club. YMCA, and multiple industry based Security Committees committed to strengthening security in the Healthcare sector. He has briefed some of the highest levels of DoD, given lectures at various conferences to include the Gartner Security Summit and SC World Congress, and has been featured in many articles relating to Information Security and Risk Management.
