Deputy Chief Mark White
Director

Deputy Chief Mark White is a 29 year veteran of the Suffolk County Police Department and serves as the Chief of Homeland Security and anti-terrorism. He coordinates all homeland security and counter terrorism initiatives within the department, and implements the department’s comprehensive terrorism strategy of prevention, detection and deterrence of terrorist acts through intelligence gathering and information sharing. He also commands the department’s emergency management section.

Chief White has served as the Deputy Chief of patrol, and previously commanded the fifth precinct, the Narcotics and Organized Crime Bureau, and the In-service Training Section of the Police Academy. He has been the executive officer of the Fourth Precinct, the Personnel and Accounting Bureau and Internal Affairs. he as also worked in the second and third precincts.

The Chief holds a bachelors degree in accounting and a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Long Island University. he is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy and formerly served on the fbi’s national law enforcement budget advisory group.
CHIEF White is an active member of the New York state,  and Suffolk police Chief’s associations,  the IACP, the  Department of homeland security Urban Area working group, nys law enforcement training directors association, international counter terrorism officers association,, the American Society for Industrial Security, The National Drug Enforcement Officers Association and served for five years on the executive board of the New York / Eastern Canada chapter of the FBI National Academy Associates.

The Chief holds the title of New York state master police instructor and teaches frequently at the Suffolk county police academy on various homeland security and school security topics.  Additionally, he coordinates and moderates realistic exercises for secondary schools, colleges and universities.  He has also lectured on terrorism at New Scotland Yard, London.

Prior to assuming his current duties, Deputy Chief White was one of four officers chosen to serve on the initial planning and development group that created the New York State Office of Public (homeland) Security. He has traveled to Israel to observe counter terrorism measures utilized by the Israeli national police and the Israeli Defense Force. The Chief serves as the Chairman of the Suffolk terrorism response task force, and the New York State Zone One Committee on Counter Terrorism, which coordinates law enforcement efforts within Nassau and Suffolk counties.
