Inspector Christopher Cleary

A twenty-three year veteran of the Nassau County Police Department, Inspector Cleary serves as the Commanding Officer of the Homeland Security and Counter-Terrorism Bureau. He is responsible for coordination of anti-terrorism strategies, preparedness planning, and his duties regularly involve liaison with Federal, State, and local law enforcement and emergency management agencies. His Bureau is also responsible for the operation of the Security Police Information Network (SPIN), the Nassau County Police Department’s public/private information sharing network.
Since joining the Nassau County Police Department in 1986, Inspector Cleary has held a variety of assignments, including uniformed and supervisory patrol, Deputy Commanding Officer of the Police Academy, Commanding Officer of the Community Safety Unit, and Coordinator of Homeland Security Strategies.
Inspector Cleary currently serves on several committees, including the the Department of Homeland Security’s New York Urban-Area Working Group, the New York State Law Enforcement Council Sub-Committee on Intelligence, New York State Committee on Counter-Terrorism, and the New York Area Science and Technology Workgroup.
He has a Masters degree in Homeland Security Studies from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey California, and Bachelors degree from the New York Institute of Technology. He has been a New York State certified Police Instructor for over 20 years.
